Hunter College professor, Dr. Steven M. Gorelick gave a lecture to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day, which was observed on April 21st. It was appropriate that today was Yom Ha’Atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, a day that honors the creation of the Jewish state in 1948.

In discussing the Holocaust, Dr. Gorelick pondered the question “Why do people do bad things?” He explained that even after learning and weighing all the facts about the Holocaust you still cannot answer the question.

He offers some advice – ask “why and how this happened?” Continually questioning “why” and “how” are the seeds of prevention for the future.
