Lilliam Barrios-Paoli, who was recently appointed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg as the new Commissioner of the New York City Department for the Aging, spoke today at the CSCS 20th Annual Conference on Aging.
As many in the senior center community know, upon her appointment, a controversial proposal by the Mayor to overhaul the city’s senior centers was postponed indefinitely. Coincidence or not, her speech today was encouraging. She explained that there may be “disagreement” as she begins to tackle large budget deficits and tough decisions, but she said, “I promise I will listen.” She wants to be a “partner” and she described her appointment as “a wonderful adventure.”
Her adventure begins on February 2nd, 2009.
